Friends are for a season, reason or a lifetime❣️

Making friends as we get older can feel a little daunting, especially for women who are navigating life changes like retirement, relocation, or shifting social circles. Unlike in our younger years, where friendships naturally formed through work, kids, or school activities, we often have to be more intentional about meeting new people.

But connection is essential—having a strong circle of friends brings laughter, support, and a sense of belonging. It just takes a little effort to put yourself out there, whether it’s through shared interests, community events, or simply striking up a conversation with someone who seems like a kindred spirit. 👯‍♀️

That’s exactly why I started a women’s group here in New Smyrna Beach. I wanted a way to bring together like-minded women who were looking for fun, friendship, and a sense of community. We meet regularly for casual outings, coffee chats ☕, and new experiences—giving us all a chance to connect, share stories, and support one another.

It’s been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done, and it’s a reminder that friendship doesn’t have an expiration date—you just have to be willing to take the first step.

CURT’S CORNER

Retirepreneur

As many of you know, I am currently enrolled at the [University of Florida] pursuing my [MS in Entrepreneurship]. So far it has been a great experience and filled up my days with “homework” 😬.

It didn’t make sense to me to pursue this degree without actually starting a new online business! I have developed a concept of an idea called Retirepreneur, was a winner in a pitch competition last year, and invited to participate in the [UF Big Idea] competition this spring. If selected, I will have to perform a LIVE pitch—which is NOT something I have experience with.

Sitting around a board room, no problem. Public speaking, not so much.

The idea is still at the initial stage but I am making progress each week. If you want to check out a “rough version” [just the beginning] – 👉 click here

Loneliness in Retirement

Retirement is an exciting chapter, but for some, it can also bring unexpected feelings of loneliness. Studies show that a significant number of retirees experience isolation regularly. However, there are plenty of ways to combat these emotions and rediscover a sense of connection and purpose.

Here are a few simple, effective strategies:

  • Stay Connected with Loved Ones
Schedule regular calls or video chats. Consistent communication reduces isolation.
  • Explore New Hobbies
Try painting, writing, or music—great ways to connect with others and yourself.
  • Volunteer Locally
Give back and meet others while doing it. Volunteering brings both purpose and people.
  • Stay Physically Active
Join a walking group or yoga class. Movement supports both body and mind.

Loneliness doesn’t have to be your story. Start building a more connected retirement life today.
